MORE HOME CARE PACKAGES FOR OLDER AUSTRALIANS
The Albanese Government is delivering on its commitment to give older Australians the care and support they deserve, with an additional 20,000 Home Care Packages being rolled out before the new Support at Home reforms take effect on 1 November.
Demand for aged care services has more than doubled over the past five years, with more than 300,000 Australians now accessing home care to help them live independently, safely, and comfortably in their own homes.
These additional places will make a real difference for families in the Hunter and across the country, giving older Australians greater choice, faster access to care, and more flexibility in how they receive support.
And this is just the start. By 30 June 2026, the Government expects to deliver a further 63,000 Home Care Packages as part of the new Support at Home scheme, ensuring that the aged care system keeps up with demand and continues to improve quality and transparency for consumers.
Quotes attributable to Dan Repacholi MP Federal Member for Hunter
“Support at Home is about making sure older Australians can stay in their own homes, close to family and community, for as long as they can.”
“These additional places will help meet the growing demand for care, reduce waiting times, and make it easier for people to get the help they need, when they need it.”
“Here in the Hunter, I hear from families all the time about how important it is for their parents or grandparents to stay at home rather than move into residential care. This program is about making that possible.”
“The Albanese Government is backing older Australians with the respect and care they’ve earned over a lifetime of work and contribution to our communities.”
